 Welcome to Second GradeMinimize

Second grade is an important year of academic and social growth.

Beginning readers take off as they develop life long reading skills and a love for reading. We use a vareity of children's literature to teacher reading and writing.

In math class we use Everyday Math and a variety of materials to help the children learn addition and subtraction, place value, time, money, and problem solving.

Second grade at Field Elementary integrates the LPS curriculum in to the IB planners. Each planner is centered around one of five themes that will be reinforced throughout the Inquiry Programme. During the year our second graders will inquire about:

Rules and Choices
The rules people make and obeying them reflect the values of their community.
The Plant/People Connection
Plant and Human life depend on each other for survival.
Community Needs and Development
Communities develop based on the needs of the people in them.
What's Up in the Air?
Changes in the air affect our weather and our lives.
How Do Writers Get Ideas?
Writers use experiences from their lives to create stories.
Where in the World Are We?
Where people live in our world affects their values, customs, and the way they live.

2nd graders will also investigate dinosaurs while doing research for their Dinosaur Probes. The IB attitudes are integrated throughout the second grade program.
