Curriculum Overview
Math - count and compare numbers, add and subtract to ten, place value, measurement, time to the half hour, identifying & cuonting coins, counting by 2's, 5's & 10's
Social Studies - community awareness, maps, current events, Pilgrims and Native Americans, American symbols, explorers, the cultures of Canada and Mexico
Science - insects, birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, rocks, soil, water and air, health and safety, dental health and nutrition
Computer - introduction to keyboard and programs, use on internet for research purposes
Reading - comprehension, decoding skills and strategies, exposure to genres in fiction and non-fiction
Writing - personal narratives, sequencing and mechanics, friendly letters, expository pieces, international pen-pals
Spelling & Phonics -first grade core list, vowels and consonants, word families, blends and digraphs
Vocabulary - subect area words
4 Specials - Spanish, PE, Art and Music
Library - students learn how to use the library, library etiquette, and check-out time
